I absolutely love shopping at Bristol Farms. I don't love spending my money there on food; I just love shopping there, if that makes any sense. I would never buy any common food items there, as they are vastly overpriced. And though their meat and produce are so good looking and superior to other local offerings, I just can't bear to pay that much of a premium. But I do love their vast selection of wines and kitchen gadgets, and their bakery.

[edit] Nicole's Gourmet Foods
Nicole's is a specialty store, a real anomaly in South Pasadena. I don't think they would be able to afford to stay open if they didn't sell to the restaurant trade, and didn't sell lunches too. But I also like to buy baking supplies from them, because they stock hard-to-find items that you won't find elsewhere.

[edit] Trader Joe's
The great supermarket strike a few years ago really soured me on shopping at the big box stores. Before then, I used Trader Joe's mostly for specialty shopping, or for picking up the odd dozen eggs, milk and cheese. Now it's become my main store, and I use Von's and Ralph's to pick up only those items that I cannot find at TJ's. Traders has always carried wonderful finds, some seasonal, some that you can find year 'round. They've greatly expanded a lot of their essentials, such as cereals, meats, fruits and veggies, and dairy, so it's a real no brainer for us.
