Shakers
From South Pas Wiki
Ahh, Shakers. Back in the day, when it was known as The Salt Shaker (the name was changed due to the at-the-time "new" salt-bad health connection), it was THE place to hang out, especially after hours. Una was queen of the place, and kept all the unruly youths in line. When she died, some of the magic seemed to have died along with her. Even the Arroyo location seems to be dead now. Still, the food is okay for coffee shop type food, and is pretty dependable. When they have it, the fresh Peach pie is divine, same for the fresh Strawberry pie. Some of the wait staff needs better discipline, though.
Addendum Aug 8, 2006: A recent visit to Shaker's after a long layoff revealed a vastly upgraded menu. Gone are some old favorites, replaced with some new and interesting choices. So too have the prices changed (upward, of course). However, the meal we tried then (fish tacos for me, fettucini for my wife) was actually quite good, not authentic, but tasty. We'll return to try some of the other choices soon.
